Happy New Year!
I let my blog stagnate a little, but plan to be more proactive now that life has calmed down a little.
At the beginning of every year, I pick a word to live by instead of making up resolutions. I have always found resolutions to be ineffective and a little too much pressure. However, I do believe in having goals. Living by a word and altering my lifestyle a little to surround that concept is more rewarding for me.
My word for the year is SIMPLICITY.
I wish to make my thoughts, personal life, hobbies and professional life a little more simplistic. I do not intend to slow down or ignore certain aspects of my life, but I do intend to see the simplicity in it all and feel less pressure in what I do. I think it will help me enjoy every day moments better and savor the “good stuff.”
At the beginning of the year, I had a few (very rare) hours to myself. I had received an invitation to submit my art to an open call show for abstract art. I knew I had little time to actually reflect on the full concepts of abstract art and I knew it had been a very long time since I was “free” to express my talents in that way. So, instead of thinking of a piece that would be “show worthy,” I just went forth and created an abstract piece for me. This moment inspired me to really move forward with the Simplicity concept for 2015. It was an invigorating and wonderful few hours and I savor that freedom now. The piece is not my “best” work by any means, but it speaks to me and that’s what matters.
I wish you all a simple and happy new year, filled with a few moments of peace and creativity.
